Little Guys Standing Taller Today

Yeah! Obama won! Yeah!

I wanted this so much and really, I think it is unfair that what happens in the U.S. so seriously affects the whole rest of the world. However, that is the way of the world and I must accept it.

My broker, "TS" says Obama winning is a bad thing - he thought McCain should get in because "Palin is so good-looking and looks matter". Oooh god! I decided then (about a month ago) that I would never listen to his advice again. I can't, however, pull out of the market now - 40% down for me and (though totally surprised by my iron stomach in all of this for not pulling out at the height of fear) I have to continue to hang on - perhaps for years - to not lock in my losses. I think I am stuck with this dumb-head young broker for quite awhile but from now on I will make all my own decisions based on my rapidly-growing knowledge of economics (my own counsel can't be any worse than any of these experts spouting off - very, very few of whom foresaw the global financial crisis).

"TS" also said that Obama will be really bad for the economy and, since the election, the market has tanked a good 1000 points in 2 days. Nevertheless, I still believe Obama has a great intellect, a broad-view intellect and is nothing less than a visionary. His organizational skills seem incredible and somehow, over time, all of these positive personal qualities, coupled with his belief that it is time to "trickle-up wealth" will bear fruit.

"TS" phoned yesterday to say, "Well, I hope your happy." I am. Even if I lost all my money forever I would be happy if Obama is able to realize any of his plans for alternative energy. Rumor has it that he is thinking of choosing Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Kennedy is a wonderful man, a liberal activist lawyer who devotes himself to the environment and I don't believe he would in any way be the sham that so many who held this post in the past have been. I've told many people now that my only interest is the environment and the protection and survival of the animals on a healthy planet.

In other news, Obama has chosen a former ballerina as his Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, a little guy described as a "ruthless partisan". I know nothing of this guy but so far it doesn't seem like Obama is veering to the centre as so many have predicted. But, it is early and I do beleive that for the US to "come together" as everyone is talking about now that the election is over, Obama should choose some "good guys" from the right. There must be a few.

Yeah! Obama won! Yeah!

Boom de ah dah

This re-appearing commercial might just be what initially got me stirring and out of bed after three weeks of combined flu and utter fear over the financial crisis. I lost a lot - millions did. I've had to figure things out and a lot of changes to come.

I enjoyed being in bed - hiding. Up and about now with very surprising mega-energy like it was 30 years ago. I think that while hiding I re-connected with all the things that have sustained me throughout my life (including past times of poverty) - spirituality, environmental and political & community issues, my art, my love of learning and a need to be extremely practical about day to day affairs.

The essential practical thing is to find employment after 13 years out of the work force. Also, must move to a more modest apartment when something comes up - I've got a little time to find something cheaper, smaller - hopefully in the same building. Travel plans and photography business plans have to go on the back-burner indefinitely cause I'm heading back into the office environment to bring in a regular pay-cheque ASAP.

What's interesting about the commercial above is reading the comments over at YouTube. Everyone is feeling seriously uplifted and joyful viewing this ad for the Discovery Channel (In Canada, this channel is about Science & Nature). Sometimes I get kinda teary when it comes on - in a hopeful way, wondering if it might be possible that everyone can get on the path to loving our planet and all the wondrous living things.
